Access 97 and multiple users

I have an database, split, that has multiple user
access. It works fine Monday thru noon on Friday.
Friday afternoon has lots of simultaneous user activity.
At this point, we start getting errors that the database
needs repairing. Any ideas on what creates this
situation and how to resolve it?
