It's not really a problem -- I have Access 97, 2000, and 2002 all
installed on one PC. You must install them in separate directories, and
I'm told that for best results you should install them in order from
earliest to latest (though I haven't found a problem with the fact that
I installed Access 97 after 2000 -- you may find otherwise). See these

OFF2000: Running Multiple Versions of Microsoft Office

One thing to be aware of, after you install multiple versions, is that
each version is going to want to register itself as the handler for .mdb
files, each time you run it. So it's a good idea to use desktop
shortcuts set up that specify the path to the version of Access you want
to run, along with the database name to open.

Some time ago I had Office 97 and Office 2000 both including Access
installed on one disk and did not experience any problems. Although, I can
not guarantee you won't.

The natural order of installation is
1. Access 97
2. Access 2000.

One of the problems you have with two or more versions of Access
installed is opening the correct version for each MDB/MDE. When you
double click on an MDB/MDE it will open the default (or last used)
version of Access which is not always what you want.

You may like to try this shareware utility:

ACCVER - Allows you to work with multiple
versions of MS Access.
Detects the version of Access used to create
your MDB, MDE or MDA files and either reports
the version number or starts the appropriate
version of MS Access.
An additional option allows you to compact
the database from a right-click menu item.
