I looked into the issue I mentioned earlier regarding importing files in
Access 2003. It doesn’t seem to be that file or just my machine. I tested
on another associate’s PC, and the same issue is happening:

When I import a text file, I can select where my columns should be place
with the Fixed Delimiter option; however, when I got to change the type
(numeric, text, etc) it will not change columns.

changing the definition of a column in design view i.e. from text to number -
I don't think changes the existing data - only new data entered into that
field/column. ....though with the import wizard it will sometimes recognize
probable numbers and prompt you if it is - and perform a convert during the
import.

If that is the issue you are wrestling with....not sure. The wizard misses
stuff though too.

once you have imported it as text - then one would need to create a
conversion process with appropriate vba code resulting in the creation of a
new table. if you define your conversion need in another post at this site I
will bet there is someone whom has undertaken just about every possible
conversion.

Thanks. I will try this and let you know

I applied those updates, office 2003 SP1 and the hotfix and everything works
great.

Thanks for the quick responses. The knowledge here is amazing.

Thanks again for all the help
