Hello,
Access 2003 does not let me export a table to excel. This is
happening on my home pc and office PC. My database is created by
importinga very large text file. I sort the text file down to about
200,000 records, the select maybe 1000 records for export. I go to
export, save formatting, and save selection. It progresses a few
seconds, then errors out with an event viewer message:

How are you selecting the 1000? With a query? If so, are you using the
query as the table name in your Export?
The maximum number of rows an Excel spreadsheet can accept is 65,536.

I am well below the 65k row limit (that was one of the first things I
checked). I just select the entire row in Access (the text file is tab
delimited, so it imports in rows/column format). I don't use the
query, just select about 1000 records out of a much larger sort. The
strange thing is that the behavior is reproduceable on completely
different systems, or else I would suspect a memory issue (one machine
is a p4-3ghz with 1.5gb ram, the other a 2.8ghz with 3.5gb ram!

Have you tried exporting other tables or perhaps fewer records?
I don't know that I can really help on this one, you have thoroughly
described you problem, but I can't see anything obvious.

I suggest not using SOA. I personally think that all of the
SOA methods have always been a little flaky: RTF truncates
fields, and I think XLS drops records.

I guess it's more work, by I suggest using Transfer spreadsheet
or an append query instead. (These are Jet methods instead of
SOA methods).
