What ports are used with the Access application on the desktop when
accessing access or sq databases over the network? Are there any ports that
are unique to Access over the network?

Do you mean ODBC and DSN as connecting methods or are you actually looking
for port numbers?

Yes. But we use an app that accesses our sql database on our workstation.
We want to be able to know Access ports aside from the ODBC connections.

Access isn't a communication program so it has not ports as your thinking.
On a Lan it will use the workstation connections. If your thinking of using
it over internet or WAN then that is a whole new question. Please post back
with more specific questions of what you are attempting to do. Pete D.

We want to block users from using Access to access our SQL database. These
users currently have a ERP program that accesses the sql database and they
need to use this. However we don't want them to be able to access this same
database using Microsoft Access with ODBC connections, exports to access
databases, etc. They do need to have Access on their workstation for other
reasons however.

Maybe there is a way to block these types of connections within Access and
if so is there a way to do this using Group Policy?

Okay, that makes sense, Access doesn't go to this level of security control
but you should be able to block it within SQL. As I have little experience
with SQL database I suggest you post a new question including the detail you
just provided so others will jump in. Recommend you post it in the SQL news
group as that is where you must take control of security. Pete D.
