Hi access users!

It's possible to work with Access 2000 and Access XP on the same computer?
Thanx!

Yes, if you install them in different directories. Depending on what you're
doing though, it may not be necessary . There are some things, such as
creating mde files, that need the correct version but, since the default
file format for Access 2002 is the 2000 format, most things work just fine
using only Access 2002. To make the file backwards compatible from 2002 to
2000, use the Access 2000 file format and don't use any commands or
functions that are new in Access 2002.

Thanx Wayne!

And with the Source Safe integration, the DB addedd with Access 2000, can be
created from the Source Safe with Access XP in the correct version? I have
this problem because I'd like to make the porting from Access 2000 to Access
XP.
Thank you!

I don't know about Source Safe. I haven't used it, but have heard some
complaints about its integration with Access.

To add to Wayne's posting see

You need to add explicit path and file names of the appropriate
versions of access to all the shortcuts. For example "C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Office 97\Office\msaccess.exe". Including the quotes
if you have any spaces in the path name which is very likely.

There are some programs out there which will automatically start the
appropriate version of Access.

One of those is ACCVER - Allows you to work with multiple versions of
MS Access databases. Detects the version of Access used to create your
MDB, MDE or MDA files and either reports the version number or starts
the appropriate version of MS Access.
