access 1.0 data recovery

Oh my! If I remember correctly the file format changed between A1 and A2 so
you would have to covert to A2 first. Then it changed again with A95 or A97
so you would need to convert that. Then it changed again in A2K (which is the
earliest that A03 can read) so you would need to covert to A2K.

With each coversion there were problems and things to go wrong.

Probably your best bet is to get a copy of Access 1 or 2 then export the
data into a CSV file or some other format. Then import it back into the A03
database.

I had some Acc 1 and 2 databases to convert last year. I believe the Acc 1
databases could only be converted using Acc 2, but I was able to use Acc
2003 for the Acc 2 conversion.
There was some code that didn't convert, or did I just import from Acc 2
into Acc 2003 - can't recall. Anyway, the tables came through fine which is
what I wanted without using any other interim versions of Access. Access
2007 will NOT work for this.

My current version is 2003

From A97 help
"Converting Microsoft Access version 1.x or 2.0 to Microsoft Access 97

Creating and modifying objects. When you're using Microsoft Access 97
to work with a Microsoft Access version 1.x or 2.0 database, you can
use objects in the database to view and modify data. However, you
can't save changes to database objects. To modify the design of an
object or create a new object in the database, you must either open
the database using the previous version or convert the database to
Microsoft Access 97 format."

So long as you can find a copy of A97 then you should be ok to use
that as an intermediate version.

Hi,

I have a Access 1.0 datbase. Can I recover the tables?

My current version is 2003

I've got Access2.0 still installed. If the data isn't confidential (surely the
statute of limitations has expired! <g>) I'd be willing to fire 2.0 up and
convert the *data only* for you (converting the application, especially if it
has code, would be more than I'd want to tackle for free).

If you're interested, Zip the file and email it to me at jvinson <at> wysard
of info <dot> com. No charge.
