my computer (XP home) crashed and it keeps restarting itself even in the safe
mode. I have no backup so what i did was took it's HDD and made as a slave
and put in another PC in order to access my documents and back it up. But I
cannot access to it, it gives me an error " access is denied" when I click on
the following folder f:/documents and settings/owner. Help me

Thanks it worked.
Now I got another problem. When I try to reinstall WinXP home after
partitioning the HDD and formatting, I'd get errors " Windows cannot find
..... files or copy, check the Disk and try again..." This error comes while
it's coping windows files to it's directories. Retry won't work, Esc gives
another file that it cant find and so on... I have 2 more disks and I got the
same results no matter which one I use. So I guess it elimunates bad disk,
what else it could be?

Sorry to interupt but it could be anything from a faulty CD player or just
dirt on the lense.

no, I have 2 CD drives and an extra restore CD. I tried both CDs and drives.
All the same result. Could it be HDD? If it's then how I could access to it
and copy my documents. I completelly removed it's partition, repartitioned
again and formatted (NTFS). When it starts copying the windows files to the
HDD, it would give me that error " cannot copy ... file, retry or esc ... " I
don't know what to do.
Restarting itself was the initial problem with this computer. No matter safe
mode, the last known good config, or normal mode. Computer is really in
decent condition HP just 2 years old.

First, make sure that the cable from the CD drives to the
motherboard is properly connected. You might want to try
replacing the cable.

There is always the possibility that there's something wrong with
your hard drive. You might want to check the web site of the HDD
manufacturer for a diagnostic program. I know that Western
Digital has one you can download and run from a floppy.

You might also want to test the memory. Download and run memtest
86:

You might want to post your question to a different newsgroup.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/reader.mspx

Setup and Deployment along with General would be my choices.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

thank you Nepatsfan, you helped me more than you could, I follow the
instructions and see what happens.
