It's the standard MS dialog for a corrupt file.

The document MyApp.adp caused a serious error the last time it was opened.
Would you like to continue operating it?

In general we click yes. Which creates a back up copy and a "fixed" file.

We have multiple people running MyApp.adp throught a share on the
fileserver.

In the context of AC2002 what does this really mean and what are possible
causes.

Is it really "serious" that this happens every once in a while?

Like with an ordinary mdb file, each people should have their own copy of
the ADP project on their own machine. If this is not the case, decompile it
twice in order to remove any trace of previous binary compilation then make
a personal copy for each machine/user.

You have ignored every piece of advice given here and in many other
forums and locations, which is: DO NOT share a front-end db on a
server, but rather give each user his own copy on his own machine.
