Hello,

since a week ago my Mircrophone worked pretty good with my AC 97
Sound-on-board. Suddenly it doesn't work anymore. I didn't change anything.
I tested the microphone-in with headphones and I can record myself but it's
far quieter than before and with my headset I can't record myself at all.
So the microphone-in seems to work but the signal is much weaker than
before. Is it a hardware-problem of the sound-on-board. I already put
another drive with another Windows 2000 installation in my computer but the
result is the same.

The headset seems to work with other computers. So I would say the hardware
of the soundcard is the problem but on the other hand the sound that comes
out of the card is still great (tv-card, music etc.).

Thanks for your help.

Peter

Sorry to mention the obvious, but since you haven't, it's worth bringing
up. You've checked the record levels (and mute switches) in the Volume
Control?

It's ok to mention that !!!

But unfortunately everthing there is ok.

All in all it seems that the volumelevel of the microphone is much much
lower is now and I don't know the reason ....

There is also a "Mic Boost (+20 Db)" checkbox under the
"Advanced" properties of the Microphone settings. Is it
checked?

Yes, everthing is ok there. Can it be that only the mic-in can be damaged.
Line-in and line-out are working pretty good.

I suppose so. Sorry I can't be specific.
