I am using WinXP and IE6. When I go to a certain web page,
some of the graphics are absent. No red X, nothing. When
I access the same page from my laptop using Win98, IE6,
the graphics are there where they are supposed to be. I
have deleted all temp files, cache, history and cookies.
Nothing has worked so far. Can someone please help me
solve this problem?

Read my original post (10:43). Does this sound like your
problem? I've been working on this for quite some time
now. Must be a setting somewhere. If you would check the
encoding languages on your lap top and see if there are 2
Western European tabs there I'd appreciate it. Please reply

Todd, the encoded language on the laptop was unicode(UTF-8)
but auto select was checked also. I changed the language
to western european (windows) and it was still OK.
My PC was set on Western European and I tried it on
unicode and that didn't help.
I am running Addelete and just discovered that if I
disabled I could see the page I wanted to see. Are you
running a similar delete ad program? I think I have my
problem solved now.

Roemary, I am not running that utility. If you go
to "View" tab then "Source" you will see html text code
for that particular page. IE is supposed to look at this
line of code then display the page based on the language.
The Microsoft page we are on uses UTF-8. Do you have
a "Western European (ISO)" selection option? I wish I
could have fixed my problem as easily as you did. If your
problem appears again I'd appreciate a reply to give some
clues. All the best, Todd

The usual fix is to rename your HOSTS file to OLDHOSTS
(all in caps) and then reboot.
To find the HOSTS file go to:
If you have Win 2K/Xp: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
If you don't see the HOSTS file then it's because it is
hidden, so set your computer to "Show Hidden Files and
Folders."

If the above procedure doesn't work, try this:
1. Quit all programs that are running.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. Type regsvr32.exe /i shdocvw.dll and then click OK.
(Note: There's a space between .exe and /i, and also
after the i).
4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer and DllInstall
in shdocvw.dll succeeded" message, click OK.
5. Do the same with regsvr32.exe /i shdoc401.dll
And reboot. just in case.

Hope this helps,
Debbie

Todd, I do have Western European (ISO) selection but I use
Western European (windows) and auto select is checked.
What is the difference in (windows) and (ISO)?

I run a couple of photography community Web sites and
since I loaded IE 6 on my work machine I've had missing
icons and placeholder gifs on my message boards and other
pages. The images aren't missing all the time and what's
missing can change from visit to visit. I can right-click
on the missing images (which aren't broken - no red x) and
select "show picture" to make the images appear. But I
shouldn't have to do that. At first I thought it was an IE
settings issue but I've tried all kinds of settings with
no lasting improvement. And other people who use my sites
with IE 6 have complained of the same problem. Here's a
page where I usually have images missing:
http://forums.consumerreview.com/crforum?13@@.ee869a2

Any suggestions? Does this sound like the same problem you
guys are having?

Thanks-

Which ones are missing?
Does using your Collapse threads link help?

That page doesn't look particularly complex but it does have some
interesting properties offline. What happens with the missing images
if you set Work Offline and then clone the page? (Alt-F,W, Ctrl-N)

John,

I've got the exact same problem, but only on one web site -
also a photography site - www.retouchpro.com/forums.

I hope somebody has an idea of what is going wrong. It
works fine on my laptop - doesn't on my desktop.
