Where do I download Window Patch next tuesday on Window
Updates or Microsoft Update? can someone explain what
Microsoft Update is for? is it for MSN product update and
not a security patch?

Next Tuesday's 7 security patches will be available via AutoUpdate,
WindowsUpdate, and MicrosoftUpdate--you won't need to worry about which to
choose.

Bu the BIG question is will it automatically move the user over to Windows
update 6 or Microsoft update 6. I have seen some users on windows update 6
and others on microsoft update 6.

My recollection is that there is some form of EULA assent, or difference in
licensing, between those two, so the process will never be totally
automatic.

I'd be interested to see, additionally whether a machine which is a) not
Activated (i.e. a large OEM bios-locked machine, and b) not passed Windows
Genuine Validation process (the substitute for activation in that instance)
can get Microsoft Update.

Built on the same core technology as Windows Update, the
new Microsoft Update service will not only update Windows
components, but also selected Microsoft products beginning
with Office 2003 Editions and Office XP. No more having to
go to Windows Update, followed by Office Update, followed
by multiple downloads off the Microsoft Download Center.

The Microsoft Update service will not replace Windows
Update, but instead is a separate service. On the first
visit you will be prompted to complete the Microsoft
Update Opt-in Wizard. If you are using Windows XP SP2 or
Windows Server 2003 SP1, you will need to click the gold
bar along the top of the browser window to view the
ActiveX control installation prompt for this Opt-in Wizard.

After you have signed up for Microsoft Update, a new
shortcut to the service will be placed on the Start menu,
and the Windows Update icon will also redirect to
Microsoft Update. The Automatic Updates client will also
use the new service and will detect, download, and install
updates for all Microsoft products for you.

Not true. If you have a brand new Dell it has not been activated. The OS
is bios-locked to a Dell motherboard, and doesn't need activation, and, in
fact can't be. However you DO need to run it past Genuine Validation.
These machines are one category of machine for which the validation process
was designed.
