These are very old questions:

1) Can the content of TEMP folders be safely erased?

2) I have TEMP folders that grow very big. In addition of the limitation of
size that I do in Internet Options in IE, is there any way to limit the size
of other TEMP files?

TIA,
haim

Reboot, then delete .tmp files.

Thank you, but the TEMP folders contain many files and program installation
leftovers that are not .tmp files. My question is if these files can be,
too, savely deleted. Meaning, if the TEMP folders content is unnecesary.

TIA,
haim

1) Which TEMP folders?

C:\WINDOWS\Temp

C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Here\Local Settings\Temp

C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Here\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files

Yes, you can delete files in TEMP folders. If you are unsure, reboot and
check the folder(s) again. XP will not let you delete a file that is in
use. Also if you just installed software you should reboot. Then check the
folder(s) again. Some programs require these files after a reboot. It is
good practice to always reboot after installing any software.

2) I don't believe so.

You asked: let us know.

Well, I was afraid to totally delete the contents of the Temp folders (there
were not only *.tmp files, but also *.inf and others), so I copied the
folders to my Backups folder, and then deleted their contents.

So far, it seems that the computer is behaving OK. After two-three days I'll
feel confident to delete the backuped folders.

Thanks again,
haim
