I just bought a brand new HP Pavilion a342n computer
running on Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition. And with
the computer came a link on my Start Menu that I can't
get rid of. The link is not in Programs... it is
directly in the Start Menu. It's called "About my HP PC"
and when I right click on it it pops up a single menu
saying, "About my HP PC" and when I click on that I'm
taken to the same program as when I click on the icon.
There is no delete option, even when I go into Properties
and customize. I have been through regedit, I have shown
all of my hidden files, and I have tried customizing in
Classic Start Menu and nothing works. The program
doesn't show up anywhere. The only thing I can do with
the link, besides running the program, is drag and drop
it to my desktop (which only copies it to my desktop) and
when I go into Properties with the desktop shortcut and
try to find the Target for it it only says, "About my HP
PC." I don't get any links, locations... nothing.

This did bug me so much that I formatted and installed
Windows XP Pro (I have a non-OEM disk) but for some
reason my C:\ was called the I:\ and another drive had my
C:\. I decided to just run my HP recovery disks after
that.

So, getting back to the point, I need to know how to
remove this annoying little icon from my Start Menu.
And, do you think that installing Windows XP Pro as an
upgrade will get rid of it?

Please help!

Can you right mouse click on the icon and select "unpin
from start menu"? If so that should remove it.

there is no manufacturers link in start menu properties...
deleteing from the registry is the only way .. the question is..what
strings to delete?
