I currently have an Asus A7V MB with an athlon 1.2ghz processor on it
and 1 gig of ram. I would really like to upgrade this motherboard and
CPU to something better, but I don't want to just throw away the memory
(1 gig of memory isn't cheap). Given how many types of memory, CPUs etc
there are out there, what would be the best MB/CPU combo I could get
that will let me keep the ram I have and still have AGP (preferably 4X
or 8X) and several PCI slots.

What kind of memory do you have in there now?

Jon

The A7V runs PC133 (or lower) memory. It will do you no good to upgrade your
system to one which will accept DDR memory (PC2100 and above) without
upgrading the memory too.

You might try an ECS K7S5A Pro. You can probably get one for under $35
and it takes both PC133 and DDR266 memory sticks (but not at the same
time). You should be able to put up to an XP2400+ in there and you can
always put faster DDR memory in at a later date, if you want to.

Check http://www.ecs.com.tw/download/manual_k7s.htm for the manual.

Or try an MSI KT2 Combo. It has 2 x PC133 and 2 x DDR RAM slots, use one or
the other but not both, as well. It also has 6 x USB2 ports. Got one
myself.
