Friend has a all-n-1 printer and she says that every time
it's used it spits out a printed page (test pg?) Is this
normal operation? Sorry I don't know the model #. She
travels a lot and the test page is eating into a limited
supply of paper not to mention the wasted ink cost.

Ask her if it is an alignment page, it probably has a header that says
alignment page.
If so, then the printer is asking for the head alignment process to be
completed (usually following printhead or integrated cartridge replacement) and
some printers will do that for ever until it is roperly done. There should be
instructions on the page, or on the LCD screen (if present) or in the users
guide about how to complete the alignment.

Hi!

Some of the HP All-In-One units can print a report page after every action,
at least with the faxing function.

Has the software been set to produce such a page after every print? What
does the printed page say?

Once a new cartridge is installed the HP printers will generally print
an alignment page. Some models will automatically read this page to
perform the alignment, others require the printed page to be put on the
scanner and a button pressed to complete the alignment. Once the
alignment is completed it will not happen again until another new
cartridge is installed. See
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...docname=c00473778&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN
for an example.

Besides letting the alignment complete there are also button sequences
that can be pressed to bypass the alignment procedure. It is better to
have the actual alignment complete, but this is another workaround if it
cannot for some reason.

Please post with additional details of the printer model for detailed
instructions.
