Look at Tools-->Options and go to the Spelling and Grammar tab. There
should be a button there called "Settings" in which you can specify that
there should be two spaces between sentences. If this isn't the case, the
grammar check will pick up on this.
I'm using Word Xp, but I'm fairly sure it's the same for Word 2K.
The setting Katherine mentions will highlight places where you have not
typed two spaces, but it will not insert them for you. You must press the
spacebar twice after each period to get the desired spacing.

This is true - although when you do the grammar check, it will identify that
there is only one space when there needs to be two, and you can then press
the "Change" button to get it to change a single space to a double space
after sentences. Unfortunately there is no "Change All" for this.
You probably wouldn't want a Change All option since that would put two
spaces after *all* periods, not just the ones at the ends of sentences
(since Word can't tell the difference).
