I downloaded Micro.AntiSpyware this am and ran twice.
All seemed to work well except my browser continues to
change itself to about:blank. Any suggestions?

Try restarting in safe mode, by pressing F8 function key before the initial
Windows screen appears. Do a full, deep scan in safe mode. Let's see if
that does the trick--please let us know.

I personally prefer and set my browser's home to
about:blank. It just makes it efficient for me not to log
on anything when I start. If I want to have an opening
screen, I use Window's address bar to go directly to a
site.

Again, it's just a preference that you may consider.

-- When I try to run Micro.Anitspyware while in the
safe mode, I get a nondescript error message and the
program will not run.

Hmm - Microsoft Antispyware should run just fine in safe mode.

In normal mode, please go to control panel, add or remove programs,
Microsoft Antispyware, and choose Change, then Update.

Then retry Safe mode. Can you give any more description of the error
message you got?

Go to this Forum in step 7, register takes a minute

Do alll steps before posting a HijackThis log.

June I agree with Plun"s advice. I'd take this to a reputable antispyware
forum--and he"s posted an excellent one.

I've had very good results with About:Buster at
http://www.malwarebytes.biz/index.php?page=downloads by having folks
download it, run an update, boot to safe mode and run it along with
MSAS. It will take care of this spyware in MOST cases.

It's definitely one I've used at one time or another, and some detection
mechanisms false alarm on this setting, unfortunately.
