Currently I have 2 hard drives and want to add a third. Do I need to
change the jumpers on BOTH the old drive so my current master is the
primary slave, and change the one that is now primary slave to
something else? Or do I just change the jumpers on the current master
to slave?

Secondly, I know I should do a clean install of Windows and re-install
all of my programs to start off with a clean drive, but I am lazy and
also concerned that I won't be able to get all of email sub-folders in
the right directory and sub-directory on the new drive. Taking the
lazy way out, how do I copy my current drive as is to the new drive so
I can just boot-and-go?

Thanks!!

If you present setup is two drives on IDE 0, with an optical drive residing
on IDE 1, then just move one drive to IDE 1 and change jumpers accordingly..

BUT FIRST.. to clone your primary boot drive, you will need to run Acronis
TrueImage or Norton Ghost from your present boot drive in order to clone the
OS to your new drive.. either program explains the steps required to
complete the job..

If you are using IDE/ATAPI drives, you can normally have only two drives per
cable. You will need to hook up this new drive onto a different IDE cable,
either as slave/master depending on what other drive is already connected on
this new IDE cable.

Just to add to the comments of Mike Hall & Yves...

You'll configure your booting HD as Primary Master. The other two drives can
be connected/configured as either Primary Slave or one or both on your
secondary IDE channel.

As Mike has pointed out, you could use a disk imaging program such as the
ones he mentioned to "clone" the contents of your present boot HD to your
new HD and, of course, the newly cloned HD will be connected/configured as
Primary Master. But if you do not want to go to the expense of purchasing
one of those disk imaging programs since you may not want to use it in the
future for routine backup purposes (although it's something that I *highly*
recommend, especially now that you'll have three HDs), if your new HD is a
retail, boxed copy it will come with a disk copying utility that you can use
instead. This utility will probably also be available from the HD
manufacturer's website.
