How can one, one second extra function be so damned annoying
PLEASE HELP...But first I would like to say I have tried a lot of different 'help sites' and 'tips' sites including this one and I am about to give up. I do like to solve things myself but I cant do this one..SOB SOB
RIGHT CLICK or CONTEXT MENUS
When I am trying to open a folder (from in My Computer for example), when I double click the icon it opens a 'Search Window'instead of opening it...BUT WAIT...I know this is the 'Default setting', and many people have tried to tell me how to change it through:Folder Options/File types etc..but that dont work. And then theres the registry (lovely place) and the 'Context Menu' scenario...hmm not entirely convinced I was doing it right so I bailed out before I had to buy a whole new XP..however I did experiment by deleting some of the keys in 'Context Menus' and then restoring them when it wasnt doing what I wanted it to do. I have tried various things. I dont mind rearranging the order of the list with open on the top
I don't mind having 'search' on the list just not at the top. I have XP pro...It only affects Folders and File Folders, not things like My Computer or actual files. It really only does take a second to right click and then choose open but HOW FRUSTRATING IS IT? I would love anyones help.

Type "REGSVR32 /i SHELL32" to fix this problem.

Hi,

Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 /i shell32

If that doesn't correct the issue (and it should) use this automated edit:

Search or CMD Opens When Double Clicking a Folder or Drive (Line 18)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To use the VBS File: Download .vbs file and save it to your hard drive (you
may want to right click and use Save Target As). Double-click the vbs file.
You will be prompted when the script is done.

Oh YEAH! Cheers Kelly.....You are somewhat my favourite person in the world right now...SO BLOODY SIMPLE IF YOU KNOW HOW

Others have answered the question. For the record, what you described is
not the default behavior or setting. When you click or open a folder, it
should display the contents of the folder as you desired.

Kelly and Ramesh posted fixes for the corruption that causes this issue.
