A8V-e deluxe
Athlon 64 3000+
WinXP Pro SP2 clean install

Have had this board for 3 months now and have never been able to
transmit or receive 1 byte of data on the LAN connection. (Have been
using wireless to router) Windows system hardware shows network adapter
is working properly. When connected to the DSL modem, or the router, it
knows if the cable is connected or eithers' power is off. Have tried
setting the data rate down to 10 from auto detect but no data is ever
shown transmitted or received. All cables work fine with my old
computer. Any suggestions on what to try before I return this puppy?

Thanks,
John

I don't think that is sufficient testing before you return it. The board
comes with some diagnostic LAN software that you should try.

If you have the nForce4 Chipset hardware firewall protection running, turn
it off completely. Win XP SP2 also comes with a software firewall that you
should try with it turned off (Windows Firewall in Control Panel). Even some
anti-virus software has a firewall built-in (like Norton Anti-Virus 2005).

If turning firewalls off does not work, I would try to connect to another
Ethernet card on another computer (preferably with crossover cable so that
no hub or router is necessary).

The LAN on my A8N-E works fine, and negotiates to 100 mbps when connected to
a 3Com 100 mbps card.

Opps, I misread the model number on your board. You don't have a nForce4
Chipset. Prior to the A8N-E, I had Soltek 890Pro-939 with Via chipset and
could not get Ethernet to work, so switched to nForce4. After hearing other
people with same problem, I determined it probably was not a hardware issue
that would be fixed with replacing the same board. I seemed to have more
problems with Ethernet when my Audigy2 soundcard was installed.

But do check your Windows firewall.

Thanks for the advice. All software firewalls are off. I quess I'll
just move my $9 d-link card to the new machine. It worked just fine out
of the box. My last machine was a Tyan Trinity AT100 with a Via chip
set. Took a bunch of patches and 2 months of evenings to get my dinky
Soundblaster card to work.
