Any fellow owner sell/post/swap cd/'s included iwith m/board. I bought an
a8vde-luxe cheap and it had nothing but the m/b in the box. Not everything
is available on ASUS website. Some things are ok and up and running but the
bios post (I think) reports the cpu fan not running - which it is, and also
it reports the bios as not installed??, but the pc runs win xp ok. Any help
appreciated. e-mail or post here. Cheeerez - Hedgehog

The CPU fan speed monitor can be set to "ignore" in the BIOS settings. I've
had to do that, as I am using a Thermalright XP-120 heatsink with a 120 mm
fan that runs at an RPM below what Asus has set as an acceptable limit. (As
far as I know, there's no easy way to redefine the threshold.) I don't know
why you'd be getting the message, unless you, also, are running a slow fan,
a 2 wire fan (no tachometer), or something is broken.

I imagine that "BIOS not installed" is the message from the Promise
controller. That message is displayed during POST if no devices (PATA or
SATA) are attached to the Promise controller. If you aren't using the
controller, it can be disabled in the BIOS settings, which will eliminate
the message (and save a few seconds of boot time).

I know of nothing of significance on the support CD that isn't available for
download. That includes the manual. The main things you'd need would be:

VIA 4-in-1 drivers
Marvell Gigabit LAN driver
Promise 378 drivers (RAID or non-RAID)
VIA RAID Drivers (needed only if you wish to run SATA Raid 0 or RAID 1 on
the VIA controllers)
Realtek onboard sound drivers

It would be useful to have a copy of a BIOS on a floppy disk, in case you
need to do a BIOS recovery. (See the manual.)

I'd also get Asus Probe:

http://www.asus.com.tw/support/down...&l3_id=0&m_id=1&f_name=probe22206.zip~zaqwedc

(link may wrap)

I've never bothered with the Cool & Quiet stuff, although it, too, is
available for download.

There are additional manuals for the VIA and Promise RAID controllers:

http://www.asus.com/support/english/techref/raid/VT6420.pdf

http://www.asus.com/support/english/techref/raid/PDC20378.pdf

About the only things on the CD that are unavailable for download from Asus
are a trial version of PC-Cillin 2002 (antivirus) and Adobe Acrobat Reader
(available from Adobe). Asus also includes DirectX, but that's available
from Microsoft (or as part of a Microsoft OS).

The CD is over 300 MB, so I doubt that anyone would post an image of it
online. (A lot of the size is due to the multi-language stuff.) If you email
me privately requesting it, I could burn a copy of the CD and mail it to
you, but you'd get all that you need more quickly by downloading it.

Whatever you wish to do, download the manual immediately, if you haven't
already done so. It's not the best manual I've ever read, but it is useful.
