Hi, I have installed an A8N-SLI deluxe with Corsair mem 2x512MB, AMD3500+
but when I powerup the system: no video, no beep at all.
I have done the power up with/without disk, w/wo DVD, w/wo flopypy, still
nothing.
The fans are ok, the green led on the mobo is ok, the led on the front on
the box is ok.
Correct me if I am wrong:
- even with no processor, the system should start POST and should says: no
processor (if bad processor)
- even with no memory installed i should at least hear something...

Where is the POST reporter output? out line? speaker of the chassis?
Should it works at the very begining of the POST (cf page 3-3: no CPU
installed)

I think that my mobo is bad...
Any ideas?

The POST Reporter uses the green Line Out port on the rear panel audio
connectors. You have to have a set of powered/amplified speakers connected
to this port during POST to be able to hear the messages.

I would start by removing the systemboard from the case. I would try to get
it working outside of the case before installing it back into the case. Add
components one piece at a time to determine which one is causing the
problem. Make sure you power off and unplug the power cable from the
powersupply, waiting for the power supply capacitors to discharge, before
adding a component and attempting a POST. Momentary contact of a
screwdriver tip across the PWRSW header pins is all that is required to
trigger the board to turn on.

I have connected a amplified speaker on the lime connector but I hear
nothing.
One question: If I use the mobo alone with only the processor installed
(because it is already installed with the pad !)
no keyboard, no mouse no graphic card, no mem. What should be the expected
behavior?

Does the green LED on the motherboard light up ?

Is the CPU fan spinning when you power up ?

The Vocal POST reporter drives the lime colored connector. With
an amplified speaker connected, and only a CPU installed on the
motherboard, you should hear something like:

"system failed CPU test"
"system failed memory test"

The Vocal POST is supposed to be capacitively coupled to the
speaker output, just before the lime colored connector on the
back of the computer. It is not even supposed to need the
two jumpers to be installed on the FP_AUDIO header, to work
properly. You could check the FP_AUDIO header anyway, and make
sure the two jumpers are in place, but those are not supposed
to matter.

Do you have the ATX 12V 2x2 power connector plugged into the
motherboard ? That will certainly prevent the CPU from
operating.

A weak power supply could also cause the symptoms.

Yes

Yes fan is ok

Jumpers are not in place, and nothing to be hear...
I will re-plug the jumpers and see the result

What is strange is that even the speaker don't bip...
this is why I suppose that the mobo is bad.
There is only the cpu and mem on the board now, still nothing

It's a new ANTEC SONATA II box (450w)
I've done a clear cmos, but the pb is still here.

Temporarily use only one stick of memory in the B1 slot (3rd slot away from
the CPU) and try to boot. If successful, go into BIOS and relax memory
timings, save settings, then install other memory and try again. Hope this
helps.

Thanks for everybody here is the final solution:

My Corsair TWINX 2x512MB CL2 was not recognized by the pre-installed BIOS.
I have changed the mem with generic one, download and installed the 1015.001
rev of BIOS,
reinstalled my Corsair ram and after that everythink is OK !
I have also try to set the CAS to 2.5 instead od 3 without sucess (up to now
!)
I will keep you inform...

Good luck for everybody

NB: It seems that we can have lot of troubles with Corsair on ASUS A8N...
