Anyone using said combination? Checking to see if there are any
clearance issues. Would like to use it on the FX-55 due to the low
noise level.

TIA,
Tim

Im using the A8N SLi Deluxes with an FX-55 and a Zalman 7700Cu. 34C idle
at 1200 rpm, using Qfan controller, it spins at 1800 rpm under load, and
still is extremely quiet. I have yet to find a decent and quiet cooling
solution for the leadtek 6800GT, although when 'idle', it's very quiet also.

RJT,

Thanks for the info. Silenx has a 12-24dBA heatsink that is very
similar in design and price to the Zalman 7700Cu but there appears to be
some issues with RAM clearance. Did you have any difficulties?

Thermaltake's Big Typhoon doesn't appear to be available yet so I don't
know what the pricing is yet. Another 'con' is that it doesn't have
manual speed control capabilities - maybe this will change when the
retail version does come to market.

I've been holding off buying a video card for the same reason. I'm not
interested in running SLi just yet but maybe in the future. I just want
something powerful and quiet. HIS and Sapphire are making some quiet
ATI 850XT boards so I may go that route for the time being. I run SETI
24/7 so CPU is always at full load but don't think that has any effect
to GPU temps.

Thanks again,
Tim

Nope, fits nicely over my Corsair memory with heatsinks (Corsair TWINX
2048-3200C2), there's even a tiny bit of room left. I can even - with a
bit of jugling - get the mem modules out of the bay nearest the CPU and
move them about with the Zalman 7700 installed. It's not so much cooler
under load as it was with the standard fan - still about 60C at max load
with an ambient temp of about 22C - but it's so much more quiet.

As for the manual controls with the zalman: you get a controller you can
stick to the outside of the case, so you can control the fan without
opening the case. That said, I don't use it, as the automatic built-in
Q-fan controller on the board does a better job. It pumps up the rpm
when the temps go up, so I don't need to turn a nob all the time.
