Hi all,

I recently upgraded my system to have 2G ram and added another drive (Hitachi SATA2). I seem to have some intermittent problems with the raptor I have where is stops responding, and sometimes the SATA2 drive.

I am thinking that possibly my coolermaster 450W PSU is not up to the job any more. Label has +12v1 as 12A/18A and +12V2 as 10A/15A. Before I really put more money into this, I wanted to get your thoughts before going for the PC P&C 510 SLI.

Any help will be appreciated. Would moving the raid or other drives to the Silicon controller help at all? I have avoided using it.

Here is the full set up.

A8N-SLI DELUXE BIOS 1006
Chaintech 6600GT
Audigy 2 ZS

Zalman CNPS-7700 that is new

Hi,
2x160GB SATA 150 drives in raid 0 on NVIDIA controller port 2 and 4

I have just recovered from a similar problem. Now my computer has been
up 2 weeks without any freezes.

In my case I had to replace two SATA Maxtor disks!! The Maxtor IDE
disks work fine. But with SATA Maxtor disks the system would
eventually freeze up. I have changed the maxtor SATA disks several
times, I've tried friends maxtor SATA disks. All with the same
problem.

I have now replaced them with Seagate disks, and since no problems.

Just in case you have Maxtor disks ... try anohter brand to see if
this solves your problem, was a long and tedious process to figure out
for me, so I hope it may be helpfull to you.

Regards Leif.

There is a firmware update for maxtor disks.

Thanks Leif, But I meant to put down that they are Samsung drives. Best
drives I ever had. dead quiet.

This config was solid until I put in the Hitachi and the extra gig of
corsair

Have you tried the Hitachi Drive Feature tool ?

http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm

There is a user guide for the tool here. See page 22.
I'd try the Hitachi set to 1.5Gbs and Spread Spectrum
disabled. Perhaps if all the drives run with the same
settings, things will work better.

There do seem to be the odd problem with this stuff:

Ok - just in case :-)

Concerning the powersupply. If's it's a good one, then it should be
OK.

I have a 500W powersupply, I have 7 250 Seagate SATA disks, 1 Maxtor
IDE disk, 2 dvd burners and no ploblems with power supply here.

Regards Leif.

Thanks, Paul.

I set it to 1.5G and it seems to be better. I am still crossing my fingers
though. I looked at the BOIS and the menus for the memory config were
totally blank. Needless to say I reloaded the BOIS as well now.
