Thought I would see what the Alt-F2 BIOS config was all about.

During POST I pressed Alt-F2 didn't get and immediate response
Pressed Alt-F2 again...

A menu flicked up on the screen, did something to the BIOS... Then
nothing.

After re-boot the computer was absolutely dead.

Would not read a floppy or CD.

I had not prepared for or read about BIOS crash recovery at this
stage.

After some cursing.... I removed the CMOS battery and replaced it

The A8N-E booted up with BIOS 1001.... Whew! thank goodness for the
built in recovery BIOS.

Re-installed BIOS 1008.

Also found that Asus recommends installing WinXP NVidia drivers v665
before updating to BIOS 1008.

The 665 drivers gave me no end of trouble and would blue screen and
memory dump whenever I tried to launch an application.

Re-install the WinXP NVidia drivers that came with my install CD and
now no more crash problems (and using BIOS 1008).
(A8N-E had BIOS 1005 installed when I received the board)
