Greetings

AMD XP 2200
1 - 512 OCZ Premiere PC 3200
ATI Radeon 8500
Enermax 400 W PS (AMD Approved)
Flashed to BIOS 1008

When this system is powered on, it gives the single POST OK beep, but
then gives one or two very quick partial beeps, like a tick sound.

Then, it never gets even to the XP splash screen, before it restarts,
and will constantly restart until it is powered off.

The memory and power supply are known good from my other system.

I have tried removing all peripherals and drives other than the HDD
and FDD. Tried a stick of 512 OCZ 2700. Tried ATI 9800 XT. Regardless
of what I tried, the beeps and restarts are exactly the same.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

I went out and bought an MSI board with an nVidia chipset today, and
it does EXACTLY the same thing as the Asus. The guy at the computer
store suggested that I had cracked the die on the processor when
installing the heatsink. But if that were the case, would the
computer start at all?

Best hunch, you need to change a bios setting or two for the Radeon.

-Also: plug a powered speaker into the green output jack, and the board is
supposed to 'speak' the problem (!)

I bought A7V8X-MX in Dec with AMD XP2200 and had EXACTLY the same problem as
you described. It actually ran DOS ok, but as soon as it started to run
anything to do with Windoze - "plink". Off it went & rebooted ad infinitum.

It was down to a faulty CPU chip which the supplier tested and replaced. I
had to take the whole damn thing personally back to the store, however!
HTH,
Martin

Hi Glen,

Can you even get to the BIOS screen (not clear from the original post)?

If you can I suggest trying to change to "Memory Speed" setting from "Auto"
to say, "266", then see what happens.
