I just bought an Asus A7V8X-X motherboard from Microcenter. This was to
replace my IWill KA266-R which had an incompatibility with my new ATI
Radeon 9600XT. I put the board in, hook everything up, and turn on the
system. From a cold boot it does a memory check (no problems) but reads
the CPU wrong (it claims it's a 900MHz CPU when I really have a 1.2GHz).
After that it drops into the BIOS so I can make appropriate changes.
Upon saving it tries to reboot and sits on a black screen.
This is as far as I've gotten with the system. The only card I have in
the system is my graphics card. The two hard drives are winding up fine
as are the CD/DVD drives. I'm not sure where the problem lies (I
suspect the CPU being wrong) or how to fix it.
I've tried hooking up only the one master hard drive, using only one
memory chip, I've tried modifying the BIOS settings... nada. Nothing.
Does anyone have another suggestion?
(Oh... and I have 2 256MB DDR SDRAM chips at 266 which the manual claims
to be fine.)
Thanks for any suggestions!
