I've installed a A7V8X-X motherboard into a new case.
The CPU is a AMD Athlon 2100.
When the on button is pushed most of the time the computer will not
start up. However, if after I push the on button and then I push the
reset button it starts. Sometimes pushing the reset button is not
required.
Could someone give me an ideal of how to fix this problem.
Hi,
When you say "the computer will not start up", do you mean that (a) it won't
boot at all, including to BIOS, or (b) that it won't boot into Windows (or
whatever operating system you have)?
If it's (b), then it sounds like the system may not be giving the hard drive
enough time to power up, i.e., the system powers up and tries to access the
hard drive, but it's not quite ready. That's why pressing the reset button
after it's already powered up causes the operating system to boot ok, i.e.,
because the drive is already up-to-speed.
Similarly, that's why sometimes it works, i.e., if the drive just HAPPENS to
spin up-to-speed fast enough for it to boot, then all's well.
I just setup one of these boards for my daughter a couple of weeks ago, but
she has it at school now, so it's not accessible, so I don't know exactly if
that BIOS has something like this, but there's usually a setting for
something like "drive delay" or "hold off time" or similar. If there isn't
such a specific setting in the A7V8X-X BIOS, I seem to recall that there's a
"quick boot" setting, which you can disable (i.e, making it a "slow boot"
).
Boot your system, holding the Del key. This will take you into the BIOS
setup. Once there, go through the various menus and see if you can find
such a setting, and increase it from whatever is the default.
If there isn't such a setting try disabling the quick boot setting. I also
seem to recall that when you do this, you get the nice Asus "X" logo on the
screen at boot.
Anyway, I hope that helps, and post back.
