A7V8X-MX problem when shut down.

This is just a basic back-up system but works fine when running, 2600
Barton, 512 meg memory 2 X 256, GB 5550 GT, WD-JB 80Gb, XP Pro,
nothing really special.

On a cold boot the fans will spin up then slow to a near stop then
will again spin up nornally and it will finish the boot OK.

On a warn restart the fans just spin up as normal.

PSU is a Antec 430 tested while running at all molex sockets and all
volts are near to perfect, the system works fine when running, it
will o/c seriously and do anything asked of it.

However, when shut down any way the MS Optical mouse and the LED on
the KVM 4-1 switch remain on, the only way to turn them on is to turn
off the PSU.

The other 3 boxes on that particular 4-1 KVM work fine and will turn
off the power as long as the Asus is turned off.

Power settings inside XP are same as the other 12 boxes, all different
systems but for two Aopen AK600GN / XP-3200 boards and two Intel /
Tyan dual raid server systems, the rest are an assortment.

All WOL and WO-USB board jumpers are turned off, (tried the other way,
no luck same same)

What is going on ? there are 3 Asus boards in the group all different,
only this one of all the rest does this.

Any clues, BTW not a newbie.

Well, we know that if you

1) Switch off in back or unplug - no output voltage
2) Switch on in back - the +5VSB is the sole output voltage
3) Switch on in back, press power in front - all outputs enabled

Since you say you have set your USB headers to run off +5V
and not from +5VSB, that would suggest to me that the +5VSB
has somehow become connected to the +5V. It could be a fault on
the motherboard, or a fault in the PSU. You could unplug the
PSU and test the PSU in state (2) above, and see if there is
voltage still on a disk drive connector, when there should only
be voltage on the +5VSB signal on the 20 pin power connector.
Testing the motherboard will be more difficult, and while you
could use an ohmmeter between +5V and +5VSB on the ATX 20 pin
connector, who knows what a normal reading would be ?

Does the A7V8X-MX still do it when it is disconnected from the
KVM ?

To prevent USB devices from getting power while the computer
sleeps, the USB power selectors should be set for +5V, and not
+5VSB.
