A7V600 Dead?

Hi,

I just installed the above board, with an Athlon XP2800+ and 512MB of 333MHz
DDR memory.

Everything installed no problems. Turned on the power swicth on the PSU, and
the green LED lit up on the board. Pressed the power button on the case and
nothing. No fan activity or anything. I checked all the front panel
connections, and they are fine.

I tried powering on using a screwdriver across the two power pins, still
nothing.

Is my board DOA?

Are you sure the board is correcly installed on the backplate of the case ?
I mean, correcly insolated ?

Yeah, one of the first things I checked. I also unplugged everything, and
re-connected.

Everything looks to be correctly installed. There's nothing I can see that
could be shorting the board. I'm going to remove it from the case at the
weekend, and see if it will power up that way.

I'm wondering if the CPU is dead, but I would have thought I'd get the
cooler fans etc, powering up even if that was the problem.

Do you have another board that you can test the new ATX power supply ?
There are two kinds of "550W" power supplies, some super-cheap ones
and some "real" ones. Based on the average reliability of power supplies,
I'd start by looking there.

Just looked again in the manual. If my PSU can't supply 2amps on the +5V
line, and I have the USB headers plugged in for the front panel, the board
won't power up. I'll unplug the panel USB cables tonight and try again.

It's not like I need them anyway, I have 8 on the back ;-)

Well, that isn't the problem. I'll pull the board tomorrow and see if it
will power up out of the case.

Hi Peter,
I have the same problem.
I tried to install it with an Athlon Xp1600+ and 256 MByte DDRAM, but also a
550Watt
power supply: nothing, really nothing works, only the standby LED on the
board.
The board I was trying to install yesterday was already the second of this
kind, a replacement part from my dealer.
There was nothing installed on the board with the exception of the chassis
speaker to make the POST codes audible. Removing RAM didn't solve the
problem, too.
Yesterday in the evenning I contacted german ASUS support.
I will keep you up-to-date.
