Any idea what the fastest cpu is that can be
used on this mobo? The asus info is non-specific
in this regard (what I've found).

I've got a 1600+, but see that now it goes up to 3000+.

Thanks!

I believe it's the 2600+. You are limited to the 266Mhz FSB on that board.
The latest official bios (1011) supports the 2600+ (the 266Mhz version, that
is).

The latest official bios 1101 only supported up to the Athlon XP 2600. I
tried putting in a Athlon 2700XP and it identified it as a Duron 2700, and
although it booted it was to unstable to use.

At this point in time there was a beta bios out for this m/b 1015_02 but it
didn't make any difference. At this point I decided to go for a Athlon64
based system and gave my old system to my brother with it's original XP1700.
One bloody day later ASUS released a new beta bios 1015_03 for the AV7266-E.
I suspect it may add support for the 2700XP, but not having that motherboard
or CPU anymore I can't say. Here's the URL for the beta bios

ftp://ftp.asuscom.de/pub/ASUSCOM/BIOS/Socket_A/VIA_Chipset/Apollo_KT266A/A7V266-E/

I don't think the AV7266-E can take the Duron CPUs, though I could be wrong.

Best of luck

Craig

That board will never support Xp 2700, its 333 FSB that board is only
266 fsb.

The maxium is an Xp 2600 with a FSB of 266 if you can findof of these.

I could not so i had to get a Xp 2400 266fsb.
