Currently a 1.4 GHZ and I want to install a 1.8 GHZ processor. I have all
the boards jumpers set to Jumper Free Mode. I installed the 1.8 and
nothing. I put the 1.4 back in and it works fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jerry

Read these two items, then give more details about your configuration.
(PCB revision is printed on the board in white letters, just like the
model number.)

I don't know, what exactly you mean by a 1.8GHz processor. Which one ?

You might try Jumper Mode, and see if your luck changes.
Depending on the maturity of the BIOS, it can make a difference.

Paul,

The white lettering is A7M266 and the processor is "AMD Duran 1.8 GHz
Socket-A 128K, 266FSB"

Oh, that was this question.

Maybe this will give you some ideas.

It looks like things that help might be:

1) Upgrade BIOS to latest available
http://dlsvr03.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socka/amd760/a7m266/1008a2662b.zip
2) Load setup defaults, then set S2K=1
3) Shut down, install new processor, set VID to 1.8V
(I guess that implies jumper mode, so adjust JEN as well ?)
(I don't know why fiddling with VID is necessary, but
try it if the board won't work otherwise).

I wouldn't bother with any wire tricks for now.

Paul,

I installed bios 1008 and my system saw the processor, but I got 2 long
beeps, no memory, I removed a 256mb and left 512 mb and the system boot up.
I left the system in jumper less mode, think are so-so, a touch un stable. I
got a process error and lost some files another time. I had S2K=1. Tried
to up at 1.8 and system would not boot. I am thinking of setting VID to
1.8v again.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jerry
