My machine is driving me nuts !!! It has begun to crash, usually when
browsing the net or file directories. It works fine in benchmark apps both
general and video. Temps look fine, power is all very close to spec and
very stable. I have already reinstalled OS (Win98SE) and done diagnostics
on both hard drives, run memtest. It crashes about once every few hours.
Just stops responding (even to Cntl.Alt.Del.) or some times monitor shuts
off. Anyone have any ideas ?

What CPU are you using ?

Also are you overclocking anything ?

Did you upgrade your drivers ?

I think I may have it ironed out. I had upgraded the video recently and I
had upgraded the Via drivers at that time.
Nothing is overclocked. I had made a lot of changes in the bios and added
some large capacitors onto extra drive connectors. I,ve been undoing
things one at a time to get to the root of the problem. I'm down to the
system timing setting and the extra capacitors but I think its the iming
setting. Its been running with it set to optimal for quite a while but now
it causes problems there. It seems to only do it with a very light load as
the benchmarks run fine. I,m thinking it has something to do with the
disconnect function when the CPU is not busy thats why I added the caps to
help out with any surges when the CPU reconnects.

I'll post back when I know for sure.

Thanks for you input. This is a great group !

It Lives !

Problem was the system timing setting in the bios. I don't know if it was
due to the new video card or if the board is getting old and just dosen't
want to use optimal anymore. I realy thought my PSU was not up to the task
of a 2000xp cpu and the 9800Pro, 5 drives, plus all those fans, its only
rated to 9 amps on the 12 volt line.
