For 6 months I've run 1GB fine. Can't add 512Mb to that no matter
what. Followed 3 MS workarounds to no availe. Vcache, Advanced Tab
limit 511MB, and one other System file change. Checked settings and
rechecked. Get a Vcache error at startup and says I must restart. I
know 1.5GB will work with XP just wondered with 98 for this crunching
task. Thanks in advance!

MaxPhysPage - Using this setting is like physically removing RAM. Use
this so physical RAM doesn't go above 1GB.
MaxFileCache - Use this setting to limit the Vcache, whenever the
systems usable memory is between 512MB and 1GB.

As far as I know, Win98 doesn't like more than 1GB. There is conflicting
info about this, so experimenting on your own system is the only way
to know for sure. The limits have to do with memory maps, among other
things.

Something else you might want to investigate, is the performance loss
that occurs at high available memory configs. I found on my system,
that the desktop was slower with a lot of RAM, so you may want to
investigate this impact on your "crunching task". My Win98 system
is currently limited to 512MB by MaxPhysPage.
