. A7V with Duron 1.3ghz .

trying to get this board to work with a duron 1.3ghz, anyone have any
experience with this? been using a duron 600 for a few years now,
wanted a cheap upgrade and got a duron 1.3ghz from ebay. thing posts
fine, but hangs after detecting the promise controller. everything i've
checked says this board (rev 1.02) supports this cpu, but it's no go so
far. been using default cpu voltage, and everything else at default.
even flashed the bios. any suggestions at all would be great! thanks.

Actually, the Asus website:

http://www.asus.com/support/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx

says the A7V only supports the Duron 1.3GHz from PCB rev. 1.05 (with BIOS
version 1008). That's not to say that it won't work, but that's what's on
Asus' website.

Don't know if you can do this, but if you can find a friend who has a
working motherboard/system, you might try installing the CPU into that and
see if it works (i.e., eliminate possibles).

If it works there, then you can try changing some things in BIOS to try to
get it working in your motherboard.

Or, possibly, if you have a local shop that's friendly, they might do it for
you, though they'd probably want to charge you something :(...

I got a Duron 1.3GHz working on an A7V board - had to update the BIOS for it
to work. Been working on there now for near on 12 months, with no problems.
I'm amazed this board A7V is still going strong! It's over 3 1/2 years old
and the PC gets used everyday for several hours.
