I have nforce drivers 3.13 installed. Recently, when I do Windows Update
,I get a message that refers to a driver for "Advanced Micro Devices
processor software update released on December 17, 2002". This seems a
little old, and I am also wondering if the 3.13 pack has more recent
drivers for the processor. Is this driver in addition to the 3.13 from
Nvidia for the nForce2 chipset? I don't want to install Microsoft
supplied "crap" on my computer (if that is what it is) as it is running
really well at the moment.

Have a look at the AMD website, here's the same update (listed on the
right side of page):

http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871,00.html

Some sort of AGP problem is solved by the patch. I personally never
encountered the specific problem.

Windows Update is fine for Critical Updates and Service Packs. It's best to
avoid all driver downloads, as you did. The 3.13 drivers are the newest for
the Nforce/Nforce2 chipsets. (Dated Nov,2003)
