Hi,

I have an asus A7N8X-X mobo and would like to know the maximum hard disk
size that my mobo will support, i would like to buy a 180 gig drive but do
not know if the mobo will support this size. Are there any
websites/resources that will tell me the maximum installable hard disk drive
size.

Thanks for your help

The A7N8X-X was released after the other family members listed on this
page, so should be OK:

http://www.asus.it/support/english/techref/48bithdd/index.aspx

Generally, implementations of ATA that list 133MB/sec transfer
rate, are another indicator of support for 48bit addressing, as
apparently those two items were introduced in the same standard.
It is still possible for an interface listed as ATA100 to work
as well, but you need explicit proof from the manufacturer in
a case like that.

Hi, I can't see anything on the Asus site, or in my manual for this board,
about a limit on the hard drive size.

I have just installed a couple of 160Gb Maxtor drives on a A7N8X-X board
without any problem.

Be aware that Windows 2000 and XP may need a poke to get them to recognise
all the drive space, see
http://www.maxtor.com/en/support/downloads/big_drive_enabler.htm for more
details. After running the patch I suddenly had an extra 25Gb per disk to
play with.
