Hi all,

I've set up a new system :-
A7N8X-X Mobo
AMD XP 2600+ 333FSB
512 MB PC2700 DDR
300W Powerman PSU
GF2 MX400 64MB
Harddrive etc

When I turn it on, lights come on, CPU fan spins, HDD runs, green light
on mobo is lit up, however monitor is blank, no beeps advising problem.

I have done the following:

Pulled it all apart and reconnected
Swapped memory slots
Reseated Graphics card
Tried a different card (through PCI)
Reset the CMOS (power off, battery out, switch jumper, put jumper back,
battery in, power on, push del)
Different monitor connected
Fiddled with other jumper settings "just in case"

ALL TO NO AVAIL!!!

I have been unable to EVER get to the BIOS.

Anyone overcome this? I only have a 120GB Seagate HDD, the 64MB GF2,
Memory and Cpu connected at the moment.

Any help REALLY appreciated!

Brendon

Like lots of Nforce2 boards, your board is suffering from a BIOS corruption.

I have 2 Deluxe boards here that just died on me...

I will ship the boards to ASUS for RMA, sell them when they come back, and
*never* buy Asus again...

..

Before you RMA try a better PSU. Your powermax 300 is probably not pushing
enough power to juice the CPU. The '8X' series just plain old needs more
juice. The Antec 400 run around $80. You could probably find one in the $60
range if you shop around. Seriously. This is a common thread re: the 8X
series.

I have a 350w Antec PSU. Board has been running fine for about a month.

Its BIOS is dead. Like most Nforce boards out there that won't boot.

A brand new Gigabyte GA-7VA works fine.
An el-cheapo ECS runs fine
My two A7N8X Deluxe boards won't boot (BIOS=dead)

AND I'm not the only one having probs with those boards...

Check the brass standoffs under the motherboard. A standoff should only
be placed under locations on the motherboard with a hole for a screw. If
a standoff touches a copper track on the bottom of the board, it can
short something. You could also try resting the motherboard on a piece of
cardboard to test it.

Also, in your reset CMOS sequence, it is "power off and pull power
cord", to be sure that there is no source of power on the board. Leaving
the power switch in the "ON" position, on the back of the case, can be
deadly while clearing the CMOS. You should never clear the CMOS if the
green LED on the motherboard is lit, as that means there is still power
to the CMOS.

Thanks Paul, I tried the acrdboard to no avail, and the cord was pulled
so the LED wasn't lit up when I clearedthe CMOS. Oh well, looks like I'll
have to contact the Vendor for a replacement :(
