Hello

I have just put a system together with a 2500 Barton Processor, and 2 sticks
of Kingston PC3200 DDR on a new A7N8X-X mainboard. When it posts, I get a
message telling me memory is running in Single mode, and if someone could
please tell me, do I need some different RAM to run in Dual Channel mode ?
(Such as Corsair ?)

I looked in the bios settings and cannot find any setting to make it go to
dual channel. Should it come in as dual channel on its own if I use the
correct RAM ?

I have RAM and PROC set to run at 200 Mhz, which it does fine and reports as
an XP 3200+ Proc.

Thanks for any help.

Steve

You have to use the correct memory slots.
I am using the 2 slots that match color wise. That may sound stupid, but
it's got 3, 2 are the same color and one is a different color, to run in
dual mode the memory must be in the 2 slots that matchin color. At least
that is how I got mine to run in dual mode.
Did you get the Kingston "Value Ram" if so I would not be suprised if you
have problems running it in sync with the FSB at 200 MHz. It's not known to
be a good performer in these boards.
Good Luck and hope this helps.

If dual channel is a hard requirement, you should have read the fine print
before selecting the -X model. The -X does not support dual channel mode.
That said, you may be pleasantly surprised at the performance, even in
single mode. I have both a -x and a Deluxe (which *does* support dual
channel) here, each with 1 gig of PC3200. To be honest, I can't tell the
difference.

Thanks for the reply BB,

This board, A7N8X-X, has 3 slots, but all are black in color, and I have
tried all combo's.

N E 1 else have any idea ?

Thanks

DAMN, and I thought people were using the X as short for deluXe, I didn't
know there was an "X" I thought all the nForce2 boards did dual......Oh well
learn something new everyday!!!!

A7N8X also support dual channel mode

Dear SSS

I plan on following the path you've taken as of now. Assuming memory
at 400MHz DDR, is the PCI/AGP bus still running at standard speeds? Is
the only adjustment raising the FSB for the processor or does this
affect other parts of the system?

My other option is to stick with PC2700 RAM and mulitply up the
Barton. Any tips?

Thanks in advance.

No worries with the NForce2 chipset. You can lock your PCI and AGP speeds to
standard and change the FSB and memory speeds independently. However, many
reports say that you *should* run FSB and memory at the same speed for
maximum performance. So, if you plan to up the FSB to 200, get PC3200 memory
that will run in synch.

It wasn't clear to me from this thread if this question was truely
answered. This is what the ASUS FAQ says:

Q: Does ASUS A7N8X-X support dual channel memory technology?

A: No. Within NVIDIA chipset specification, A7N8X-X supports single
channel memory mode. If you want to have dual channel memory support,
please purchase A7N8X, A7N8XDeluxe, or A7N8X-VM.
