I recently bought an A7N8X-X. On the box it says it has CPU overheating
protection. I can find nothing in the manual or in the BIOS. The board
came with 1005 installed. Does anyone else have it different?

Don't think so. AFAIK in order for a board to get AMD's certification
now the boards must be able to read the CPU on-die thermal diode and
shut the system down if the temp exceeds a certain limit. ASUS just
gives it a fancy name (COP) for marketing purposes, I'm glad it's there!
So there is no options to disable or adjust COP under, and you shouldn't
need to. ;p

Yes, I'm glad its there, but on the A7V8X and A7V8X-X boards the shutdown
value can be reduced from the (idiotic?) default value of 95 degrees. I
would want my machine shut down long before the CPU gets to 95. I don't
even know what the default value is on my board. I accept your assurance
that there probably is one.

What's up Doc?

The setting is in the bios (1005) under either power managment or boot
options. You specify the shut down temp and the options are either 85c
or 95c. Naturally you'd likely want to go with 85c. I think other ASUS
products use CPU fan detection of some sort. Not positive on that. I
know that I started my board up for the first time without having the
fan plugged in to the mobo and it didn't shutdown. It was only for a
few seconds though before I realised.

So you nearly had a fry-up eh? That'll teach you to check your wiring :)
No mate, there's nothing in the BIOS - not that I can find and that's why I
posted. In the A7Vs the option to change is easy to find, but if Asus put
anything on this board they took trouble to disguise it.
