I'm running WinXP SP1, and when I plug in my USB 2.0 device (a Lexar
Jumpdrive) I'm told that there is no hi-speed usb port available. So it
operates, but at 1.1 speed. Is there a motherboard or OS driver or
something I needed to have installed? My BIOS is 1005. Thanks for any
help, or directions to somewhere that can.

Same thing happens to me but *only* on the 2 front USB ports, have you
tried the rear USB port?

Ed

Unfortunately, the problem exists at all ports, leading me to believe the
USB 2.0 support is not installed at all.

Device Manager certainly doesn't indicate that it's present.

In BIOS, USB Controllers set to V1.1 + V2.0 ?

USB 2.0 controller will show up as a Enhanced USB to PCI controller. If you
don't have that then check under "other devices" and see if there is a
serial bus controller there. If so, update the driver for it and it should
find the USB 2.0 drivers.

Thanks for all the replies, but so far I'm still getting no USB 2.0. Very
strange. I'll post here if I figure anything out. Maybe a WinXP repair...?

if th ea7n8x is like the a7v8x you have both 1.1 and 2.0 usb but on
different ports the port near the keyboard and mouse connectors are version
1.1 and you have to use the usb3 and usb4 connectors on the mother board.

All ports are USB 2.0 on the A7N8X

Well, they are supposed to be anyway...

They are all USB 2.0...not supposed to be...they are. Most people that have
problems are with the front ports because USB 2.0 complaint cables aren't
being used.

My fronts only work in 1.1 mode, someone said it's because of the port
on the case and not the board, So what's the difference between a USB
1.1 port and a USB 2.0 port, they are wired up the same way, no?

USB 2.0 cables are shielded better to support the higher speeds. Just like
network cable where cat3 cable only supports 10mbps, cat5 supports 100mbps.
While the cables look the same, hook up the same, they are different in that
cat5 is shielded better than cat3 to eliminate stray noise that will disrupt
the higher speed transfers. Some USB 1.1 cables will work fine at 2.0
speeds, but lower quality unshielded cables such as found on most case ports
generally will have problems.

WinXP must be pretty dang smart. ;) When I plug in a 2.0 device in the
fronts it says, High-Speed device plugged into slow port. So your saying
all I need is a better shielded cable?

btw, the case is an Antec SX-1040BII Full Tower

Probably...can't say for sure though. I have an Antec EasyUSB 2.0 in one of
my 5.25" bays for my front ports and they are definitely running as 2.0
ports.
