I'm recycling my older A7N8X-deluxe, rev. 1.04 into my backup
computer. I'm getting a new A7N8X-E deluxe board. My question is, when
I swap motherboards, will I need to do a repair install of Windows XP?
Or, will it not even notice this change?

I was just wondering what the experiences of others who've tried doing
this was.

Thanks.

there are certain things that XP will look for on start up and compare that to
the HAL(hardware abstraction layer) file on the HD.If there are enough
differences then XP will not start and a repair installation is necesary.
Network Cards, video cards, memory.processor are all on that list among others.
only way to tell is to try it.

Thanks for the reply. Obviously the network card will change since its
internal. The CPU, video card, hard-drives and RAM will all be
identical. Not sure how it will deal with the internal memory
processor, etc. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

I'm thinking that I should probably do a repair installation anyhow,
just to make sure that it enumerates all of the hardware properly.

Just un-install all the specific devices for the current motherboard, in
device manager. Swap the motherboards over and XP should detect the new
devices apon boot-up. If that dosn't work, then do as you suggested.
But I don't think that would be needed at all... *8)

I done exactly what you are going to do just a few months back. A repair
install was eventually needed as XP was a little unstable to say the least!

Thanks for the response. I sort of thought that would be needed.
