A7N8X - Eax and A3D?

I have an A7N8X Dx, rev2, 1006 bios with latest drivers.

I'm a little confused about the onboard audio support. When I play
games like Half-Life, there is an option for "Enable A3D Hardware
support" and another option for "Enable EAX hardware support". I
don't seem to have support for these options. Can I get support
through sofware used in conjunction with the card or am I just missing
something? One of the reasons I got this mobo was because the onboard
sound was supposed to be so good, so I'm surprised I'm having sound
troubles on what is a rather old game.

I've checked google groups for other posts, but haven't found too many
recent ones and none referring to A3D. In some cases, during some
games, I can hear a scratchiness to the sound irregardless of what
sound options are on.

Officially speaking, is A3D and EAX supported by A7N8X's onboard
sound? If there are problems, does anyone know of a patch coming out
or does anyone have a suggestion for a better driver? (The old posts
I found regarding EAX didn't seem to have a resolution).

Thanks

There won't be much about A3d since Aureal folded and got bought by
their biggest rival Creative, EAX is an open standard and is supported
by nVidias Soundstorm and the Realtek ALC 650 up to Eax 2.0.

If you have problems with EAX, an alternative is Realtek's driver,
currently version 3.49 from realtek.com.tw, though be warned I've seen
suggestions that using their drivers will disable the Soundstorm
capabilities, though I've never been able to confirm this anywhere, you
will lose the use of the Soundstorm control panel. A good place for more
specific info would be the forums on nforcershq.com

I am not an expert in this, but I am fairly sure it is EAX compatible.
A3D died a few years back with the demise of Aureal.

Thanks guys. It's been a good board. I'll check nforcershq.com as
suggested.

But can you confirm that others have been having EAX trouble with this
board and, if so, have you heard anything about a patch coming out to
fix it?

EAX works fine for me, the only problem is a brief squelch noise every
now and then in Operation Flashpoint. Updated drivers will come with
updated nforce drivers, which are only a matter of time. There are 2.64
unofficial drivers from MSI doing the rounds, you can find out more on
nforcershq.com in the forums.
