A7N8X (early) w/ XP 2400+

I had been absent-mindedly upgrading stuff for as long as I have been
messing with these things and ran across the following.

My A7N8X works well -- the XP 2400+ was running at 2 GHz. I upgraded the
BIOS from 1003 to 1004 and then I later noticed it was identifying the CPU
as any number of wrong things from 1800+ to 2100+ at the appropriate wrong
clocks, and no adjustment of BIOS settings would fix this.

I went back to BIOS 1003 and after resetting the CMOS (the first time I had
done this), it is back to 2400+ and running at 2GHz.

Does anybody have an opinion about whether resetting the CMOS was the
important factor or was 1004 the culprit? I suppose I could go back to
1004, reset the CMOS and see, but I thought I'd bounce it off you guys
first...

I have exactly the same problem, and I don't know what to do....

I have a similar Problem:

When i first installed the cpu on the mainboard, it was recognized as
a XP1800+. In BIOS, i've set the FSB to 133MHz (*2) and the
Multipilicator to "Auto", which means 7.0x/15.0x. After this procedure,
my processor was correctly recognized as a XP2400+

Windows reports A 2GHz CPU, too. But 3DMark2003, for example, shows only
1GHz for cpu clock. Confused of this, I started Z-CPU, which also
reported 1GHz. So, I actually don't know if my cpu runs on 1 or 2 GHz.

Another weird thing about that, is the fact that i can't set the FSB
clock to 166MHz (means 333MHz) although the jumper is set correctly.

If anybody has experienced the same problem, i'd be thankful for any help

I have the same combination and have no problems at all using BIOS 1001,
all the way up to the current 1007. I have the CPU frequency set at 133Mhz
which is its normal value (i.e. not overclocked). I have the CPU Frequency
Multiple Setting at "Auto" (7.0x/15.0x). My memory is synched to to 133Mhz
as well.
