I have a GeForce 5200 ultra on my comp now, works great never had a problem
with it. Thought I would do a cheap upgrade and tried to install a GeForce
5600 AGP 8. The system wont boot up at all.I get a black screen that
recognizes the video card and drivers...then goes to another black screen
and stays stuck. I have updated NVIDIA drivers, updated the motherboard bios
to 1013. Now the insulting part is that I tried to install it in my kids
crap comp and it boots up no problem at all. Please help as I have spent
hours on the net researching and trying to config the bios to no avail.
Thanks ahead of time for all replies.

It is a slight possibility that your powewr supply is marginal. When
the video card starts to crank up more of its functionality, the power
supply collapses. I had a similar problem and it went away when I
removed the 250W supply and replacedx it with a 400W supply. YMMV.

Ok...new power supply and same symptoms.

In your post, I'm not sure if you are seeing the BIOS
screen or not. If you can see the BIOS screen, then the
video card is not completely dead. Is your problem
a black screen after the Windows desktop is supposed to
appear ?

Did you uninstall the Nvidia drivers, _before_ changing
cards ? It could be the system is still trying to use
a FX5200 driver, to initialize a FX5600 card. You should
always uninstall the drivers and drop down to VGA (driverless)
mode, before switching video cards.

Try putting the old video card back, then use "Add/Remove"
to get rid of the Nvidia driver. You could use a tool
like "detonator destroyer" to remove the driver, or
whatever is left of it - the release notes say it doesn't
work with WinXP, but you never know:

If you have a spare disk, reinstall the OS on that,
install a driver suitable for the FX5600, and tell us
what happened. Disconnect any other drives, so you
cannot upset them with your experiments. Amongst all
these options, something is bound to work :-)

Did you try another video card? Perhaps it could be something to do with
your new video card and/or driver?
