A7N8X-E Deluxe strange RAID problem

I have an A7N8X-E Deluxe BIOS 1008

1 IDE drive as Windows XP boot
2 x Maxtor SATA drives configured as RAID 1 (mirror)

This system has been working fine for the 2/3 weeks since I built it.

However, out of the blue, during POST I'm met with

Press <Ctrl+S> or F4 to enter RAID utility

Incomplete Raid set ! Please press <Ctrl+S> or F4 to enter Raid utility

[I press F4]

No device detected, Utility disabled! Press any key to continue...

[I press a key, Windows boots off IDE drive, SATA drives can't be seen]


What seems odd to me is the "No device detected" message when the
BIOS messages clearly show the two Maxtor drives being detected.

Any suggestions on what may be causing this, and advice on a possible
solution would be much appreciated.

I have almost exactly the same problem, just trying to find a fix now,
but so far nothing. How did you get on?
