OS : Windows 2000 Professional SP4

I have an A7N8X-E Deluxe BIOS revision 1013 with three Maxtor drives,
the primary is an ATA but the other two are SATA and these are the
problem, quite frequently I get a popup message That says that both in
turn have been removed unsafely and then the PC hangs after I click
OK. Occasionally I get informed that data has been lost from either
drive.
I have searched the Asus site, The Silicon Image site and the Micrsoft
Site and have seen various similar issues discussed but none that seem
to be relevant to me, the problem seems to be recognised by Microsoft
but is supposed to be fixed in SP4.

Can anyone help me please ? Just writing this message has involved the
messages popping up numerous times associated with the hangs.

Dodgy data cables / power connections, both should be a tight fit on
every set of pins.

Thanks, I'm checking it now, what also occurred to me when I opened
the case is I wonder if it could be symptomatic of a failing or
marginal power supply, I have a CDRW, a DVD-ROM, a DVDRW, three hard
drives, a chassis cooling fan and a cooling fan on the graphics card
running off a bog-standard and aging PSU. I think I'll unplug a few
things and see what happens.

Go to the Maxtor website and download their hard drive diagnostic
software. Run the tests on your drives to see if you may have a hard drive
problem.

Sorry I should have said that I did that, the problem does seem to
have been temporarily solved by waggling the cables and unplugging
some devices I don't need whilst a new PSU is on order.

Thanks.
