No matter what I try, can't get the on-board lans to work. Have
systematically gone down the line and tried everything I can get my hands on
but the damn things just will not come up. Jumpers on board...fine.
Bios...fine. Updated all the software from Nvidia and even from Asus.
Removed them totally and reinstalled them a a half dozen times. Slap in the
old 3-com nic card and instant bingo. The on-board lans show little x's
thru them so I've figured the software just isn't properly installing and
has been my focus. Have pinged with my old nics and shows fine...take them
out and uninstall all everything and start from scratch....nothing. Bios
with the board is 1006 and haven't flashed but am thinking about that.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

What OS do you use? Flashing BIOS shouldn't hurt, but I'd be surprised if
that would enable the lan chips. You might just have a bad board, it
sometimes happens. You tried many options, unfortunately without results.
If nothing helps, return it and get another one.

maybe there is a resource conflict (IRQ).

i say this because i think it looks like your saying they show up in the
control panel under device manager with an x thru them.

are you using win98 or win2000/xp not in acpi mode?

I'm using xp pro but can't find any conflicts. Seems like I just go round
and round, but now thinking the board must be defective but can't figure out
how to diagnose the lan. My ol' nic cards come right up but the built-in
lans won't no matter what I seem to do. Don't wanna return the board only
to find the same thing and there was something I missed. Just keep
strugglin' and strugglin'....whew!
Thanks for the input.

Try right-clicking the adapters in control panel and select Enable. Sounds
to me like XP has them disabled itself. I have my 3com nic on my
A7N8X-Deluxe enabled in bios but disabled in XP and the red 'X' shows on it
in control panel

I have seen this problem on a number of a nforce boards from different
vendors I gave up and used add in PCI cards.

Trawling the newsgroups indicated that there maybe
compatibility issues with various hubs and chipsets.

Using XP pro the onboard nics would look fine in the device list but I could
never get them to connect-always telling me the cable was disconnected.

I am using a hub with realtek chipset.

hope this helps

Chris
