Let them eat beef

Ho hum - didn't do my homework when I ordered this replacement for my
A7V266-E. I was hoping to reuse all my existing hardware but my old
Sparkle GeF2 MX200 won't work when the board arrives, so what will? Are
all AGP8x cards compatible? My budget is about £30-40 & hopefully
fanless. I'm hoping a Gainward Fx Powerpack! Pro/660 AGPx 8 TV-DVI
Fx5200 128MB will be suitable or something similar. Thanks.

The picture here shows a gf2 mx200 and it has slots cut for
1.5V and 3.3V. So, it should at least insert into the motherboard.
Why not give it a try ? (If you do have info that it will not
work, do you have a URL to the web page with the info ?)

A FX5200 could be a bit faster than your mx200 - it really depends
on how fast a processor you are using, as a slow processor "flattens"
the video card curve.

I don't recollect reading about problems with video cards in
Nforce2 boards, but if you still have any doubts, visit
nforcershq.com forums and use their search engine, to see if
anyone is having problems with video cards on their motherboards.

Hi Paul
Well, the m/b arrived today & appears to be rev1.01 - I thought rev 2
was the current model. As my existing A7V266-E mostly works, I'm not in
a huge hurry to install it & may have to fresh install WinXP from
scratch anyhow but will try a repair install 1st once I get the h/w
sorted.

It looks like most other makes of similar boards aren't as fussy
regarding what AGP cards work & Asus state that the cards need to be
1.5V only (AGP Pro/8x?). I may also need to scrap my Zalman flower
cooler due to the orientation of the CPU socket. I should know by now
that upgrading m/bs is rarely simple as one hopes for :(

The revision number of A7N8X Deluxe stops at 2.0
When the A7N8X-E Deluxe was introduced after that, the rev number becomes
1.01. So, 1.01 is actually later than 2.0 :-) You got the most recent
one.

A universal video card (two slots) will work in a 1.5V only motherboard,
because the motherboard has one key in the 1.5V position, and it
will fit into the 1.5V slot cut in the video card. So, from a voltage
perspective, there should not be any damage by plugging your current
video card into the new motherboard. As for AGP rate, I would hope the
two would work at AGP 4X. If it doesn't work out, you can always pick
up a FX5200. Buy your FX5200 from a reputable manufacturer, as there
are so many FX5200 products on the market now, it is hard to tell who
makes them all. Some manufcturers don't even list the core and memory
clock speeds on the card, or whether the video chip is run in 64 bit or
128 bit wide memory interface mode. If you see a product you like, run
the make and model number through Google, as there are always brands
out there that have high infant mortality (die in the first three
weeks of use). I'd recommend Newegg reviews, but right now they carry
so many brands, there are very few reviews for each card.

I've got a weeping eye, stapled head & a leg I can't put any weight on
due to a dual between myself, my bike & another vehicle which I have no
memory of apart from some of an ambulance journey to the local A&E, so
my plans for this weekend are put forward until some unscheduled time
off next week! However, searching on "1.5V AGP" did throw up this page:
http://www.directron.com/15agpguide.html
When I get back the strength to unplug my GF2MX card - it should confirm
whether or not it's going to work, This page suggests it will if my
card's cut-outs look the same as in your picture. So, some goods news!
V2.0 indeed seems to apply to the earlier model.
